This webquest introduces students to the hardware components common in many electronic devices today. It should take 5 periods. The webquest focuses on teaching the students the function of the common components so the students can design an analogy for the processes these components follow inside a computer. Once the students complete their designs and explain their processes, you can show them the similarity of the process they choose and many other processes in the world.
Standards
ISTE.nets Computer Science Standards
1.c. Demonstrate knowledge of digital devices, systems, and networks
- Demonstrate an understanding of data representation at the machine level
- Demonstrate an understanding of machine-level components and related issues of complexity
Common Core Standards
- CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RST.9-10.4: Determine the meaning of symbols, key terms, and other domain-specific words and phrases as they are used in a specific scientific or technical context relevant to grades 9–10 texts and topics.
- CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RST.11-12.4: Determine the meaning of symbols, key terms, and other domain-specific words and phrases as they are used in a specific scientific or technical context relevant to grades 11–12 texts and topics.
- CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RST.11-12.9: Synthesize information from a range of sources (e.g., texts, experiments, simulations) into a coherent understanding of a process, phenomenon, or concept, resolving conflicting information when possible.
